The Last Two Verses of Surah al-Baqarah

The final two verses of Surah al-Baqarah — often called "Amanar-Rasul" after their opening words — are among the most powerful passages of the Qur'an. In them, Allah affirms the believer's faith and teaches a comprehensive du'a of humility and dependence.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him." (Bukhari, Muslim)

ءَامَنَ ٱلرَّسُولُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ‌ۚ كُلٌّ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِۦ‌ۚ وَقَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا‌ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ٢٨٥

The Messenger ˹firmly˺ believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. They ˹all˺ believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers. ˹They proclaim,˺ “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. ˹We seek˺ Your forgiveness, our Lord! And to You ˹alone˺ is the final return.”

Virtues

A gift from beneath the Throne: Ibn 'Abbas reported that these two verses were given to the Prophet ﷺ from a treasure beneath the Throne (Muslim 806).
Sufficient for the night: whoever recites them before sleeping is protected and sufficed by Allah (Bukhari 5009, Muslim 807).
A comprehensive du'a: verse 286 is one of the most beloved du'as, taught by Allah Himself.

When to recite

Every night before sleeping.
In the last third of the night with reflection.
In personal du'a — verse 286 is a du'a for forgiveness, ease, and Allah's help.
